I've been cleaning out some vintage pattern books and because I really hate to let them go I scanned the pages to digitally share them. Crochet is a very old craft. The familiar stitches have been found buried deep within Egyptian tombs. The captions in this book depict a time when women busied themselves with needlepoint while making their house a home. You can't find a decent doily in the stores so here is --

Star Book for the Home 1942

"Keep Fingers Flying~ In times like these it is necessary to make our home bright and cheerful. America needs the woman who keeps her fingers flying -- makes every busy moment count. Beautiful crocheted, knitted and tatted household items can do much to reflect our confident, courageous, cheerful attitude..." ~Cecilia Vanek

"I crocheted this scarf and saved a lot of time - It's so lovely I'm going to add more motifs to form a tablecloth"
"I tatted mine and saved many a dime - A tatted piece adds so much charm to a house. This design is especially lacy and delicate."
